Juan Moreira is significant in the development of an authentic, popular national theatre in Argentina. The story about a marginalized character, gaucho Juan Moreira, had appeared as a serialized novel published in the newspaper and was chosen by the Carlo Brothers circus as the basis of a pantomime performed as an homage to Buenos Aires and featuring local actor Juan Podesta. The story is about a gaucho unfairly accused and pursued by the law and shot in the back.
