The Trachiniae is the chorus of Trachinian women. Heracles returns from war after a 15-month absence and brings captive women home with him, one of whom he is in love. Deianeira learns of his infidelity and schemes to use a love potion to win back his favor. She douses one of his robes with the potion and sends it to Hercles. Unfortunately, what Deianeria thought to be a potion is actually a deadly poison.
