The Manifesto of the Communist Party is one the most famous political works of the nineteenth century and provides the primary political and economic doctrine of communism. Written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engles in 1848 to create a political program for the European working-class movement, it postulated that history is composed of class struggles and that the industrial proletariat would eventually overthrow capitalism and establish in its place a classless society. The Manifesto inspired many revolutionary movements around the world and profoundly affected politics in the twentieth century.
