The inculturation of theology is clearly a post conciliar desideratum of the church. Vatican II declared that it has always used the discoveries of different cultures theologically to spread and explain the message of Christ as well as to probe it and more deeply understand it (G.S., 58). Following its lead, the Theological Commission of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) recommended the use of vernacular languages in the teaching of theology and asked that the thought patterns and mindsets to be developed among the students of theology should be closer to the people’s ways of thinking. Practically reiterating the same points, the Second Plenary Council of the Philippines (PCP II) underscored the need to use tools, methods and expression coming from the culture itself so that faith may take root in the matrix of our Filipino being. The KAGANDAHANG-LOOB series responds to the call of using culture in doing theology. Focused and based on a Filipino theology of kagandahang loob, the series seeks to harness its thought potential to explain in indigenously contemporary categories the God-human relationship, the significance of Jesus Christ, the life and mission of the Church and the moral life of a Filipino Catholic. The series is a collection of four theology textbooks aimed at presenting the core of Judaeo-Christian Tradition to college students.
