Sericulture Extension

Sericulture is an effective tool to eradicate poverty and unemployment in vulnerable groups. Silk production in India in the recent past has exhibited tremendous growth both horizontal and vertical through systematic and planned approaches and emerged as the second largest producer of silk in the world. New technologies accelerate the production process only if they are effectively disseminated in the field. The challenge under the Indian conditions has been more about the dissemination and rate of adoption of new sericulture technologies by the sericulture farmers. Extension efforts are directed towards farmer's problems and provide solutions by utilizing the limited resources. In this backdrop, this textbook is written with the objective to explain the applications of practices, policies and principles of Extension which relates to various strategies for wide adoptability of new technologies, innovations, methods in improving the production and productivity of sericulture farmers. "Sericulture Extension" has been designed as a textbook that emphasizes to provide a comprehensive reading material for farmers, students, extension professionals, researchers and others interested in the field of sericulture development. The book is divided in to eight chapters; each chapter has been presented in a logical sequence. All the chapters have been dealt in a simple manner to make it useful. We hope that this will be a useful addition to the literature in the discipline of sericulture Extension. We wish to express our appreciation to publishers of books, individuals and organizations whose data and information has been used in the preparation of this textbook.
