Emotional eating is often seen as the 'lesser evil', especially compared with other afflictions such as alcohol or drug abuse. However, even though the substances consumed may not be dangerous per se, emotional eating should be taken seriously enough. After all, experts estimate that 75% of all people overeat due to emotional reasons. Emotional eating is thus the most common cause of obesity. And the range of consequences obesity has on our health is shocking, even though most of us already have heard this information before. Not only can obesity lead to chronic high blood pressure and coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, strokes and fatty liver disease, it is also has an alarming connection to cancer and fertility problems.
