Reviving the second city of renaissance Scotland, this book shows, through previously undiscovered photographs and drawings, the life and the maritime quarter of this great port. As it illustrates Dundee's transformation into a major Georgian town at the center of the flax trade between St. Petersburg and the United States, this account examines the changes wrought by the production and sale of the jute, by the arrival of railways, and by the advent of tertiary education. Drawing particularly upon the rich visual history sources of the Charles Lawson's drawing of old Dundee in the Central Library, the DC Thomson photographic collection, and the University of Dundee Archives, this is a in-depth look into this constantly regenerating city.
