The Prevention of Organised Crime Act 121 of 1998 makes provision for the introduction of measures to combat organised crime, money laundering and criminal gang activities; the prohibition of certain activities relating to racketeering activities; the prohibition of money laundering and for an obligation to report certain information; the criminalisation of certain activities associated with gangs; the recovery of the proceeds of unlawful activity; the civil forfeiture of criminal property that has been used to commit an offence, property that is the proceeds of unlawful activity or property that is owned or controlled by, or on behalf of, an entity involved in terrorist and related activities; the establishment of a Criminal Assets Recovery Account; and for matters connected therewith.
