Stuff Preparation for Paper and Paperboard Making is devoted to stuff preparation for paper and paperboard making. Topics covered include the composition and structure of papermaking fibers and their effect on the beating process; stuff chest design and agitation equipment; esparto printings; and beating machinery. Both the basic concepts involved and their practical realization are addressed. This volume is comprised of 14 chapters and begins with a historical background on beating, followed by a discussion on fiber structure and composition to give an idea of how beating equipment and techniques were evolved and to supply a basis for an understanding of the beating techniques described in the text. Subsequent chapters deal with stuff chest design and agitation equipment; esparto printings; beating machinery; rag papers; Manilas and electrical insulating papers and boards; and newsprint and mechanical printings. Chipboard and other papers made from waste paper are also considered. The final chapter focuses on instrumentation and automatic control in papermaking.
