After a bitter divorce a young man moves from his hometown to make a fresh new start in another city. Everything is going well for him but his life suddenly changes when he learns his father is diagnosed with leukemia and has less than a year to live. Shortly after his father passes away a job promotion brings him back to his hometown, a city he had hoped would become a permanent part of his past. When his mother begins having a series of strokes many years later, he learns about being a caregiver, and about the power of devotion and love, and the unbreakable bond between a mother and son, as well as the sad state of eldercare in America. He also learns that sometimes the bonds that can bring a family together can sometimes draw it apart.
