This early works is a fascinating insight into the life of John McCarter as compiled by his grandchild. No attempt has been made to prepare an extended biography of John McCarter as few materials now remain from which a biographical sketch can be prepared. All that has been attempted has been to collect and preserve such an account of his life as can be gleaned from original documents now in existence and as will interest his descendants, with some examples of his literary efforts, and brief notices, mostly obituary, of some of his children and grandchildren.
