Primary Source Fluency Activities: Early America

With speeches, poems, and letters, including The Wedding of Pocahontas and an excerpt from The Federalist Papers, this book uses primary sources and activities to help teach important fluency strategies. Students will discover the famous figures and events of colonial America including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and the American Revolution to name a few. Developed by Dr. Timothy Rasinski, these activities are designed develop fluent and meaningful oral reading, as well as vocabulary and word decoding skills. Each text includes a history connection, a vocabulary connection, and extension ideas to meet the diverse needs of every student in the social studies classroom.
