Louisa Casselle: Reconstructing a Life in the West-U.S

This document collection introduces the student to a range of primary sources centered on the life of a nineteenth-century prostitute in the American West. Students will learn to identify evidentiary gaps and employ strategies (verification, inference, reasonable speculation) for dealing with the missing pieces. Students are guided through their analysis of the primary sources with an author-provided learning objective, central question, and historical context.
