Strategic management is a cornerstone of any MBA programme. To date, strategic management has always been presented using conventional theories and mostly U.S cases. Yet, in 90% of cases, conventional strategic management does not work. This unacceptably high failure is examined through conventional theory (for example, Chris Argyris work defense routines) and through the Islamic perspective. This textbook incorporates the latest research by experts at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), especially in the area of developing corporate cultures that are in sync with Islamic values. The cases used in the book are international cases which highlight the Islamic perspective. Although this textbook is meant primarily for IIUM masters and PhD students, it should be relevant to any MBA programme in the Middle East. Although it is meant as a textbook, it tries to provide Muslim business leaders with practical ways of transforming their businesses. It should be noted that strategic management from an Islamic perspective is not simply about being shariah-compliant so that any discussion about Islamic law will be kept to a minimum so as to be accessible to non-specialists in Islamic law.
