The proposed is being created in response to two market factors; 1) the lack of an up-to-date book for the introductory courses in human factors, and 2) the perceived need for a living repository of cases and articles on the broad applications of human factors knowledge across the globe. The book is being written by highly experienced authors who come out of the engineering departments but who have spent time in engineering and in the real-world as consultants and advisors. The book will take a control theory perspective and use control diagrams to illustrate the relationships and interactions between the various knowledge areas and applications. The main feature of this project will be the creation of a web-based archive or repository of articles, cases, examples and exercises from across the range of knowledge areas and applications. It is envisioned that the website will allow for customization by users of both the content that's available and their own content that will work to build the archive going forward. A full instructor's manual will be available.
