On June 5, 2004, six distinguished Catholic theologians addressed a symposium of clergy, religious, and laity on the topic of lay ministry in the Catholic Church. The event was sponsored as the Second Annual Conference on The Catholic Church in the 21st Century by the Catholic Community Foundation of Kansas City in collaboration with the National Association for Lay Ministry (NALM). The symposium treated the topic of lay ministry both historically and in its contemporary reality from the following perspectives: 1) Who Did What in the Church in the New Testament? Sr. Carolyn Osiek, R.S.C.J.; Brite Divinty School, Texas Christian University 2) Who Did What in the Church in the First Millennium? Dr. Francine Cardman; Weston Jesuit School of Theology 3) Who Did What in the Church in the Second Millennium? Rev. Kenan Osborne, O.F.M.; Franciscan School of Theology 4) Mission and Ministry Dr. Richard Gaillardetz; University of Toledo 5) Lay Ecclesial Ministry--What It Is and What It Isn't Rev. Thomas F. O'Meara, O.P.; University of Notre Dame 6) Lay Ministers and Ordained Ministers Rev. Michael J. Himes; Boston College This symposium is of interest to anyone who is serious about the role of lay ministry and leadership in the Church. Pastors and lay leaders will find this to be a must for their parish ministry library. Book Edited by Richard W. Miller, II Contains the complete text of all presentations with footnotes.
