The Department of Education (DepEd) has started the implementation of Republic Act No. 10533, known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013. The new Act aims to provide sufficient time for learners to acquire in-depth knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes through continuity and consistency across all levels and subjects. Subjects are to be taught from the simplest concepts to more complicated ones through grade levels in spiral progression. As early as the primary grades, students are to learn concepts in biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics. In line with the thrust of DepEd, the authors revised and enhanced the BREAKING THROUGH SCIENCE series and aligned it with the K to 12 curriculum in accordance with the reforms that are implemented in basic education. The Breaking Through Science series facilitates understanding of both the simple and complicated concepts in science. Lessons in the new series are more interactive and meaningful to everyday life. The series is designed to assist learners in sharpening their thinking skills through discovery, investigation, analysis, and interpretation of data and information, rather than through memorization and accumulation of facts. The chapters in each book of the series are divided into lessons, which may be taken up within one or more class periods depending on the complexity of the topics.
