Successful Project Management In Local Government

This report, which is intended as a hands-on, practical resource for local government employees, presents the concept of project management, a powerful method for organizing work. After establishing a definition of project on the basis of four criteria, it then outlines the steps that constitute the life cycle of a project; discusses the interplay among the triple constraints on a project so that changes in any one variable will necessitate changes in the other two; describes the qualities that a successful project manager must possess; presents a variety of project management tools, such as the Work Breakdown Structure, Weighted Average Technique, Task Analysis Worksheet, and Gantt Chart; and examines such strategies as project teams, meetings, contingency plans, and conflict resolution that are all integral to successful project management in local government today.
