Reducing False Alarms: A Systemic Approach

This report explains how local jurisdictions can quantify the false-alarm problem, inform and involve all stakeholders, make procedural and legislative changes, and organize and train city and county law enforcement personnel for a unified approach. In their outreach efforts, jurisdictions need to work with alarm providers, educate alarm users, automate record keeping to facilitate prompt notification of premises owners, and practice good public relations. Appendices provide examples of notices, citations, and brochures.
