Land Use Decisions: Assuring Fairness

This report contains a brief discussion of each element of procedural due process, and provides checklists to help local government officials comply with each element. It describes two alternative methods for making land use decisions—the land use hearing examiner and mediation—and provides model ordinances for implementing either method. It also explains how to evaluate and improve your land use decision-making process by interviewing citizen stakeholders. A case study from Jefferson County, Washington, is included.
